New Horizons - Seniors' Program
The New Horizons program, funded by
the United Way of Burlington & Greater Hamilton, is an example of social
programming that has strengthened the Burlington community by
integrating seniors who have a developmental disability in the
mainstream community. Aligning with the vision of
The New Horizons program works in
partnership with agencies serving seniors in the community to provide
meaningful and inclusive activities for seniors who have a developmental
disability. The Activities Coordinator through New Horizons works
with seniors to reach retirement goals, and match seniors to activities
based on their skills, abilities and interests.
Goals of the New Horizons program:
- Coordinate meaningful activities for
seniors in the community
- Match each senior with activities based
on their skills, abilities and interests
- To make smooth transitions from work to
retirement
- Promote an inclusive environment for
seniors who have a developmental disability
New Horizons has maintained a successful
partnership with Burlington Seniors’ Centre and Joseph Brant Wellness
House for 3 years. More recently, New Horizons developed
partnerships with the Seniors’ Activation Maintenance program (S.A.M.),
the City of
UNITED- EVERY ONE, EVERY
DAY, EVERY WAY!!
