The New Horizons program, funded by the United Way of Burlington & Greater Hamilton, is an example of social programming that has strengthened the Burlington community by integrating seniors who have a developmental disability in the mainstream community.   Aligning with the vision of United Way, New Horizons believes, “A community is not truly great, until is great for everyone!”

The New Horizons program works in partnership with agencies serving seniors in the community to provide meaningful and inclusive activities for seniors who have a developmental disability. The Activities Coordinator through New Horizons works with seniors to reach retirement goals, and match seniors to activities based on their skills, abilities and interests.

Goals of the New Horizons program:

New Horizons has maintained a successful partnership with Burlington Seniors’ Centre and Joseph Brant Wellness House for 3 years. More recently, New Horizons developed partnerships with the Seniors’ Activation Maintenance program (S.A.M.), the City of Burlington – Recreation and Diversity Coordinator, The Halton Catholic District School Board and a relationship has been developed with Acclaim Health – Alzheimer Seniors’ Day Program. These partnerships have proven to be truly successful as they promote social inclusion for seniors who have a developmental disability.

UNITED- EVERY ONE, EVERY DAY, EVERY WAY!!
